Khurdi (Mutton Soup) – Bohri Dish

Mutton – 250 gms small pieces

Ginger Garlic Paste – 2 tsp

Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp

Garlic – 8-10 cloves – chopped finely

Wheat Flour – 2 tbsp

Chana Daal – 1tbsp – soaked for about 2 hrs

Onion – 1 medium chopped finely

Green Chillies – 4-5

Oats – 1 tbsp (optional)

Salt to taste

Vegetable Oil – 2tbsp

Lemon to taste

Mint Leaves – 2 tbsp ( garnishing)



1)     Marinate the mutton with ginger garlic paste , onions, wheat flour , green chillies , chana daal, salt

2)     Heat oil in a cooker and sauté the mutton marinade till oil oozes out

3)     Add water and oats and cooker the mutton till done

4)     Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a small vessel. Add cumin seeds and let it splatter

5)     Add finely chopped garlic and let it turn golden brown and add it to the mutton

6)     Boil the mutton for about 5 minutes

7)     Add lemon and mint leaves for garnishing


For potato lovers you can add a potato cut into half and give 3 whistles to the cooker.

Khurdi is a traditional bohri dish and is had with khichdee
